The only clue found so far about the birthdate and birthplace of Helen Fortune is in the 1841 Census, when her age was given as 30, born in the County (of Haddington as it was then). Peter senior was a widower in the 1851 census but there is no inscription for Helen on his gravestone. It is possible that she was born in Whitekirk: Helen Fortune daughter of Wilm. Fortune and Margt. Masson born 29 Mar, baptized 7 Apr 1808.
