The only undocumented information about the children of David Downie and Helen Lawson concerns the death of their second son William, who was alive aged 2 in the 1851 Census with the family in Juniper Green but does not appear in the 1861 Census there, when the only William in the household is aged 7, the son born in 1853. The first William is assumed to have died between the date of the 1851 Census and the birth of the second William on 1 November 1853.
