Robert Fraser's origins are so far unknown, but Isabella's parentage is given on her death certificate. In the 1841 Census, when the family was living in Dale Street, Barony, Robert was said to have been born outside the county of Lanark (but in Scotland) while Isabella's birthplace was given as England, as it was in the 1851 Census when she was a widow living in Drygate Street with three of her daughters. However, her birthplace was given as Glasgow in the 1881 Census at Tylefield Street.
The births of only three of the children have been found in parish registers (the surname is recorded as Frazer in the records for Margaret and Janet). Janet is said in her record to be the seventh child but there were only six children with Robert and Isabella in the 1841 Census.
