As the Eddrachillis Parish Registers began in 1808, there is no documentary information about births, deats and marriages there before this date. George and Betty appear as brother and sister in the 1861 Census living in the same household in Scourie More. In 1841 and 1851, Betty was living with her mother in Scourie More, appearing on the same page of the Censuses as George. The Sutherland Estate Papers in the National Library of Scotland contain a list of small tenants in Eddrachillis in 1830 and they include Hugh and George Ross in Scouriemore, with four black cattle and seven sheep. George Ross and crew appear in the list of boats in Scouriemore in the same year. It is only guesswork but Hugh could be George's father.
