The evidence for David senior's parentage comes from his baptism record and his entry in the 1851 Census, when he was living in Kinghorn with his wife aged 58, born Kinghorn. His wife's forename appears variously as Elspeth, Elizabeth, Euphan and Euphemia in the marriage record, baptism records and in marriage and death certificates. For example, daughter Elizabeth's baptism record gives her mother's name as Elizabeth Mitchelson while her death certificate names her mother as Euphemia Mitchell. Susan's birth is unusually close to that of Janet: only eight months separate the two births. Susan certainly survived for at least six days, being baptized on 15 July 1819, but no further trace has been found of her after that.
