David Downie and Jean Boid advanced the cause of family history by having four sons in Kilconquhar before moving to South Leith, where they had three more sons. the last two of which died young and were buried in the common ground in South Leith Kirkyard. There is a burial record for David Downie Labourer in Leith aged 55 (died 11 February 1791, buried 13th) but the age does not quite match, and there was another David Downie, married to Janet Clark, in South Leith at the same time. Only David, my direct ancestor, has so far been traced after his birth.
