Anne's death certificate identifies her parents as William Fernie and Ann Marshall (the informant was her son David Clephane Downie and another son Thomas Downie M.D. certified her death). It is possible that they were mistaken about their maternal grandmother's maiden surname as an Ann Fernie was born at Leslie on 11 February 1789 to William Fernie and Ann Jarvis, which matches the age of 83 on the death certificate.
